On January 27 and 28, 2018, we had the immense blessing of participating in our first annual Parish Outreach & Evangelism Retreat. Our guest speaker was Ms. Thomaida Hudanish, Director of the San Francisco Metropolis Outreach and Evangelism Ministry. We began Saturday with Orthros, followed by helping with the Food Pantry and creating “Bags of Blessings” to provide those less fortunate.
Thomaida then spoke to us about the Gospel mandate to share the Good News of Christ with others. Her talk was very inspirational, highlighting that our gratitude for what God has done for us and our love for our neighbors compelled us to share Christ with them. She hen shared practical ways to better welcome guests and inquirers to our parish. This included a brainstorming session about different contacts people may have with our faith that would lead them to our doorstep. It was a wonderful talk!
The next day, Thomaida spoke after coffee hour about the work that the Missions and Evangelism Ministry is doing and ways that we can support it. She also unveiled the new “Mission Possible” campaign which is replacing Mochas for Missions.
Thomaida’s time in our parish was a wonderful blessing. I’m told that a few other parishes in the Metropolis booked her to come speak once they heard about our experience. May God grant us the wisdom and inspiration to put into practice message and tools she shared with us!
